The Danes surely know how to party.
That may come as a surprise as the Danes are known for their reserved nature, but while in the Danish capital of Copenhagen Hobo Planet experienced what happens when the Danes – who are one of the happiest people on earth – kick loose.
Every year in the end of June when it’s time for high school graduation the streets fill up with open trucks loaded with happy 18 years olds who are celebrating the end of the final exams after three years in high school.
Every single class from every single high school rent a truck and drive around the streets with loud music, whistles and plenty of beer. Passing cars honk the horns and people wave and congratulate the graduates.
During the day the truck visits the home of every graduate on the truck bed. Here the parents wait with food – and more beer. After a short visit – maybe only 15 minutes – the graduates return to the truck, which then heads for the next home with waiting parents, food – and beer.
Most classes have around 30 students, so it’s a long day!
It’s probably not very good on the graduates’ livers, but everybody’s happy and cheerful – and who wouldn’t be after three years of studies?
